Math Songs

Create a song about mathematics in any genre of music you like.  It could be rap, r&b, pop, rock, country or anything else you wish.  Use Mr. E's original "Big Fraction" as an example of what to do.  There is a bare minimum for this assignment but remember the more you do, the more extra credit I will give out.  The amount of extra credit given will be at my discretion, but how it is distributed, (amongst tests, quizzes, labs, class work or homework), may be at yours.

Specific rules are as follows:

  • The song must be about an aspect of mathematics.  It does not necessarily have to be about the topic we are covering currently.  At least 90% of the song must reference mathematical topics.

  • Your song must be to a tune (an existing one or one made by yourself).

  • No cursing, slander or references to illegal activity or substances, (basically anything against the law or school policy is strictly prohibited).

  • Minimum length:  one full verse (at least ten lines long), one main chorus.

  • Songs must be presented on paper printed out to be turned in to Mr. Eckersley.

  • Songs may be presented in class at a time to be determined by Mr. Eckersley or on a disc or vhs tape.  (Note: presenting it is not mandatory, but will earn you even more credit)

  • All songs must be the original work of the student who presents it.  If any work is found stolen from another source, no points will be awarded.

  • Songs may be presented in groups as a music video or individually.

  • All submissions must be in before the end of the first marking period.

  • You may earn up to 20 extra credit points to be dispersed on any assessment, lab, project, or assignment that you wish, (please be sure to let Mr. Eckersley know where you want your points after it is graded.)

Have fun with this extra credit project and make it your own.  Note that your songs may be featured on my webpage under "Math Songs" only with full permission from the creator with all credit given to him/her/them.
